Created by Jonah Christian, Amir Oosman, and Robert Finucane, Joomanji productions consist of live recordings of the instrumentalists in our collective (Drums, Rhodes, Sax, Trumpet, Bass) mixed intermittently with vinyl sample chops. The resulting music is a fusion of crisp instrumental sound and that vintage vinyl vibe that so many of us hip hop heads have grown to love.

When I was informed that UK based artist Little People, aka Laurent Clerc, had some new electronic music in store for us, I jogged my memory to think of the last time I enjoyed his downtempo brilliance. I’m pretty sure it was on the Emancipator station via a little known app/website called Pandora (back in the day before their ads were everywhere you looked) and recall it being one of the best matches I have ever heard coming out of the algorithm operated website. Mickey Mouse Operation was the first album and dammit was it great.

The first 2014 release at Export Label wax ‘Dark Glow’, an album recorded by the Hungarian artist Niteffect. Budapest based Miklos Labady (Niteffect) has been a part of the underground scene since 2000; after numerous EPs, cooperations and guest appearances on compilations, he finally recorded a long play. ‘Dark Glow’ comprises nearly an hour of music, divided into twenty parts, characterised by the restlessness of trip-hop and abstract hip-hop. Niteffect’s recent material shows great maturity and consistence, every track on Dark Glow compliments the next, making the album a logical and coherent whole.
